Atlantic Timeline is an ongoing column where we highlight some of the most exciting moments from Atlantic Records artists' musical legacy. This installment covers 1964.

THE DRIFTERS mark their final top 10 hit with “Under The Boardwalk.” Lead singer RUDY LEWIS passes away the night before the session and when the musicians union refuses to cancel it, JOHNNY MOORE steps up on vocals.

JIMI HENDRIX, then known as ‘Jimmy James,’ makes his Atlantic debut accompanying THE ISLEY BROTHERS on their single, “Looking For A Love.”
