Pinch me! Am I dreaming?...Hold on, let me take you back a few hours to the start of my first day as an intern at Atlantic Records. My morning began with a fellow publicity intern, Emily, teaching me the ropes. After shadowing her for the day, I became more familiar with the types of projects and tasks I would soon become accustom to while interning here. By noon, I already saw that each day will keep me on my toes doing something different everyday.
After mocking up a few press clips and putting together a few press kits to mail out to writers, I looked up from my computer to see Marc Broussard walk by with his manager and his guitar player – headed to the Artist Lounge for some interviews. Shortly after, I was off to Chipotle to get him lunch! Soon after, as I was busy learning more, Marc Broussard was roaming around the office prepping for his event later that evening. It was only a little while later that my supervisor Jason asked if I would be able to help out at a Meet & Greet Press event for Marc Broussard later that evening at The Empire Hotel, helping welcome and checking in all of the press that would be attending the event.
After hearing more and more about this exciting event throughout the day, I was anxiously awaiting the clock to hit 5pm, when we would be leaving for the event. Once we got to the venue, Emily and I helped set up the rooftop pool deck and then headed downstairs to await the arrival of all the press. Despite the clouds that could have “rained on our parade,” mother nature was on my side and held out until the event was over…literally.
As guests began to arrive, Marc spent some time with each writer answering questions and engaging in conversation as if they were old friends. To cap off what was already a great evening, the crowd was treated to an incredible acoustic performance of a few of his songs “Ballad Song,” “Home,” my personal favorite “Lucky,” as well as an unheard track “Let Me Do It Over.”
Following the show, I was lucky enough to get a chance to talk to Marc for a few minutes. Although we only spoke briefly, I was able to get a full sense of his personality, charisma, and star-quality that brought him all the successes he has today. He may be one of the coolest people I have ever gotten the chance to meet…and he eats Chipotle!
So there you have it, a day in the life of an intern at Atlantic Records. Cool, huh? While I know everyday won’t be as exciting as meeting a famous singer on top of a gorgeous rooftop on the Upper West Side, it’s those moments that keep me driven to succeed in this fast pace industry where anything can happen. Talk about the best first day…EVER!
