Jay-Z and Kanye West Sample Otis Redding

The songwriter behind "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay", "Try a Little Tenderness" and more, Otis Redding's promising career was cut short by a tragic plane crash in 1967. Despite the brevity of his career, Redding's sound is so distinctive and his legacy so great that he has been posthumously inducted into both the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Otis Redding has continued to be a major influence on modern music, and is frequently cited as an inspiration by artists, many of whom honor his legacy by covering and/or sampling his songs. That roster now includes JAY-Z and KANYE WEST, whose track "Otis feat. Otis Redding" from Watch the Throne draws inspiration from Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness".
